Claude Monet was born on 14 November 1840 in Paris. His mother is a singer, his father's grocer. His parents are the second generation of Parisians, but in 1845 they moved to Le Havre (Normandy). His baptismal name is Oscar Claude, for his friends - just Oscar. For the world of fine art, however, he is Claude Monet, the father of a whole movement in painting, Impressionism.
