Description
"The Seasons" is the first set of decorative sails of the Muha, created in 1896, and became one of his most popular series. It became so famous that Muha was asked to produce at least two more sets based on the same theme in 1897 and 1900. There are also designs for two more variants.
The idea of personifying the seasons is not new - examples can be found in the works of the old masters. But the women who paint the Muha - like nymphs, with a romantic, ethereal and provincial look, revive the classical theme. The four canvases shown here.
The mood captures the moods of the seasons - innocent spring, hot summer, fertile autumn and frosty winter, which together give the harmonic cycle of nature.
