Abraham Ortelius was born on 14 April 1527 in Antwerp, part of the Habsburgs (today in Belgium). He is a member of the influential Ortelius family at that time and travels very much in Europe. Ortelius started working as a card engraver and in 1547 he became a member of the Antwerp cartographic guild. It sets the foundations for the critical analysis of ancient geography. Ortelius examines the possibility of a continental drift that has become a geology-based theory a few centuries later.
The map was created by Abraham Ortelius in 1564 and is the first map of the world with title "Typus Orbis Terrarum", which Abraham prints.
